As a firm believer in promoting #localsmallbusines As a firm believer in promoting #localsmallbusiness, today we participated in the @townoflincolnon #beamsvillebench #niagarabenchlands #pickapath2022 for #Halloween!

Tell me how you’ve supported a small business lately?
As my son models his new orange shirt today, I am As my son models his new orange shirt today, I am reminded that not only will he be permitted to wear it, he will come home from school tonight in it. I remind him that the reason we wear orange shirts today is because not so long ago (within my own lifetime) little boys and girls who lived on this land were stripped of their personal effects on the first day of school and not permitted to go home to their mothers.

I know as a white woman I am privileged to live on this land and have the freedoms I am permitted when still other children in this country don’t have clean water and are still snatched from their homes and families under the guise that our government officials, predominantly white people, ”know better.”

Today and every day, I continue to urge local, provincial and federal governments to recognize and address both historic and present day wrongdoings to the people indigenous to this land.

(Our shirts were purchased from an indigenous creator, Niswa B - her children’s hands were used in their creation. https://niswib.ca)

My understanding from relatives is that my grandmo My understanding from relatives is that my grandmother's father (Frederick Samuel Gardiner) was a very stern man. I've always imagined him as not one who was prone to fantasy or whimsy.

And yet, this package contained a business book - "Inside Facts about the Cartooning and Illustrating Profession."

Cartooning...is definitely not something I would have thought he would have been interested in.

And I've now changed my answer to the question "Name one person, alive or dead that you would like to have tea with."
One of the best things about having my family stor One of the best things about having my family story on the Internet is that sometimes family members (or offshoots) find me. A reader this week pointed me towards “The Age of Daredevils” - a book about the family of the man who married my grandmother’s cousin - who were known for challenging #NiagaraFalls. I took my time to read it through and discovered there were two full chapters related to my cousin, her marriage, and her untimely death. The writer captured the personalities of my aunts very well, and I hope now to connect with him to glean more of the story. If you are interested in reading more about “Franny” Gardiner Hill, check your local library or pick up the book from Amazon! https://amzn.to/3kpwMdY
